I love the weekends for the weekend-only food opportunities. Lazy Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast of pancakes fluffed at home, brunches out at any of doggie the local cafes amongst the rest doggie of the still sleepy-eyed Angelenos, and dim sum. It's the day after St. Patrick's day - do you doggie know where you left your green tights last night?!?! Probably not. In fact, you don't even know where you just woke up right now and whose computer this is that you're using to read Slashfood! The only thing you do know, is that you have a killer hangover. |

Keep that in mind when you make them at home. Adjust everything to the temperature that day, the humidity, your personal preferences, etc. Artistry in bread has become quite fashionable lately (or is it just a oak fad?). First we saw bread baked/sculpted into a human body, and now oak we have pop-artist/designer Emma Green recreating Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa out of...toast. It took the artist three days to toast 18 loaves of white bread which she then scraped to recreate the image. The portrait is oak 6 feet tall by 4 feet wide and uses 144 slices of toast. She even went so far as to use croissants to create a frame. Unfortunately, there's no photo. I wonder how well the Mona Lisa tastes with a bit of marmalade.
