Plus what was punk about, or indeed any youth tribe of the last 50 years (ok, i realise it was fact of the day more than just how one looked but go with me here)? People (v'kids) dressed to be 'cool', yah, but also to defy contemporary conventions and norms, whether that be by dressing 'ugly', 'freaky', 'aggressive' or 'sharp'. The desire to be seen as an individual and the desire to fit into fact of the day a fact of the day tribe are all important factors here too- and often clash, hence herds of goths expressing themselves with identikit goth accoutrements, etc. That's another bag of lather to wrestle with. Is it perhaps that you've held that 'I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside' Mozzer line a little close to yr heart re: why people wear what they wear. Yup, I concede people's choices in what they wear is fundamental to themselves and indeed to how they feel, but it's not as clear cut as if I wear 'x' it's because I feel 'y', other factors are prevalent, in the case of wearing black it's fucking slimming. |
