This is also why so many trends have had such short shelf lives, i.e. once the rebellion's been expressed, where is there to go with it? The bands learned to play their instruments properly and/or split up and the fans either got steady jobs with banks (in the era of punk) or 'never sold out', to become the modern equivalent of the local village idiot. |

(nobody likes us plump mature either) ana06-10-2004, 10:19 PMexactly... and? .....and that means you do not have to like it ('surely that's a subjective thing, innit') but there was a serious point going back to a woman's right (and indeed a man's right) to wear what they please and that choice does not entail a reflection of their inner mental state or any self-loathing- this could just as well apply to women who dress 'pretty' or 'sexy'- perhaps the 'trendy/ugly' look is a means to subvert the conventional 'look' that men (and other women) expect/demand ok? |
